SYSAC April Series 2024        14 04 24 April series Race 1 – 3

The SYSAC racing section welcomes experience racers and people who would like to improve their sailing by racing in Swansea Bay. Racing is a great way to make the most of your boat and improve your boat handling skills both as a skipper or crew.
We are a small racing fleet so races are run informally. The Officer of the Day is agreed on while the fleet passes through the locks
Racing regularly takes place in Swansea Bay using laid marks and navigation marks. The racing programme also includes longer races along the Gower coast and some races to other ports in the Bristol Channel.

SYSAC sailors have always been welcome to join in the races of other clubs in the Bristol Channel.
You are welcome to join as crew to one of the boats racing or to bring your own boat.
Our sailing instructions explain how the races are organized and list the marks that we use regularly. Please follow the link.

Dates and times of races may be found on the racing calendar. We usually have a spring and autumn series with one off races during the summer

RACING INSTRUCTIONS

YACHTING & RACING

Racing your sailing boat is a great way to spend time on the water. We have a race planned for most weekends during the Spring, Summer and Autumn in which everyone is welcome to join us. Most races take place in Swansea Bay, we race around a few laid marks. The races usually last for about an hour and a half to two hours. We also organise weekends away when we race to Padstow, Cardiff, Lundy and other places in the Bristol Channel.

You do not need a racing yacht to join in, but a few crew are useful. We score our races using 2 scoring systems; the IRC system for more serious racers, and the NHC system which includes all cruisers. The IRC system is a rating system for the type of boat. The NHC is a handicap system based on your results.

HOW TO JOIN IN

If you are very new to sailing and would like to crew on one of the boats racing regularly, you will be very welcome. Alternatively if you are just new to the idea of racing and would like an experienced crew member to come out with you for a couple of times, this can arranged. Please get in touch with Hilary Davies email: foxtrot7977t@btinternet.com or speak to any of the people who race.

We generally go out on the locks an hour before the race start time. To notify the race officer that you would like to join in the race call Foxtrot on channel 37. (This may be P1 or M1 on your VHF radio). We have great fun and take care of our boats.
